Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)This surgery improves the contour of both superior and inferior eyelids by decreasing the tired, wrinkled and swollen appearance that is caused by the excess of skin and bulging resulting in bags of fat. These bulging pouches make like a sort of hernia and are projected in the skin of the eyelids. This procedure also improves the visual field because it eliminates the sagging skin at the sides of the eyes. The scars are minimal and hidden in the upper creases of the eyelid or just below the eyelashes in the lower eyelid.
For this type of procedure, the anaesthesia of choice is usually local. However, general anaesthesia can be used as well, depending on the patient and surgeon preferences for safety and comfort. Doctor Chavarría may choose to operate on all four of your eyelids at the same time or divide the work between upper and lower sections. To begin, Dr. Chavarría will make incisions along the natural folds of your upper eyelids (below the eyelashes for the lower lids) a traditional scalpel. Once the eyelids are extended, the doctor will proceed to remove the excess muscle, skin and fat. The whole process can take from one to three hours, depending on the how many eyelids are being worked on at a time. When the removal phase is complete, the incisions are closed with mini-sutures, minimizing any risk of scarring. Afterwards, you will be able to return home right after the operation and bandages are not required in most cases. Following an eyelid surgery, Dr. Chavarria usually recommends a recovery period of at least 8 days that you will have to spend in Costa Rica. Take into account that the time you spend in the country can be expanded to your needs especially if you wish to go on a little vacation before having surgical treatment performed and take the opportunity to see some of our natural wonders. The price of a blepharoplasty surgery varies from patient
to patient thus, an initial consultation with Dr. Chavarría
is essential before deciding if you will benefit from this
treatment. More information about this procedure can be found here |
